About Street Meet
Street Meet is a family owned and operated restaurant. Owner Carey Basciano was born and raised in Youngstown, Ohio and graduated from Kent State University in 1991 with a degree in Journalism and Mass Communications. He has worked in the food and beverage industry for the past twenty years. Prior to opening Street Meet, Carey was the General Manager of the Harbourside Café in Harbourtown for twelve years. Mostly Carey remains behind the scenes, coordinating the activities between the front and back of the house, developing and implementing the advertising and marketing strategies, and working on the catering menu. His wife, Shelby Sharp Basciano, born and raised in Syracuse, New York (Central Square, really) graduated from Virginia Tech (Go HOKIES!) in 1992 and then completed her Masters in Occupational Therapy at Russell Sage College in 1992. Shelby works as a Personal Trainer and fitness consultant at Beach City Fitness, as well as performing the bookkeeping/office related management for Street Meet. The couple have three little girls and have lived on Hilton Head since 1992.
Managing Partner, Nicole Basciano, sister of Carey, was also born and raised in Youngstown, Ohio. She graduated from Kent State in 1997. Prior to transplanting to Hilton Head, Nicole worked for Wine Trends, Inc., a wine distributor in Cleveland, Ohio. Although she also is skilled in the back of the house, you will mostly see Nicole performing all facets of running the front of the house. In addition, she recently stepped into the leadership role for the Merchants Association for Port Royal Plaza.
Managing Partner, Eric Strauss, college roommate of Carey, was born and raised in the Youngstown area also. He graduated from Kent State in 1991 with a Journalism and Mass Communications degree and previously hails from Baltimore, Maryland where he worked in Advertising Sales for Verizon Information Services. Eric’s skills are used in both the front and back of the house as well as with the marketing of Street Meet. He heads up our local official Brown’s Backers Club.
Chef Rafael Palacios, previously the Executive Chef at Land’s End Tavern in South Beach Marina, moved to Hilton Head from Texas in 1989. Rafael has cooked at several of the island’s best restaurants and has been a cornerstone of Street Meet’s kitchen from the start. His skills include all managing aspects of running the back of the house, as well as development and implementation of the catering and large parties program. He and his wife, Solia have two young children.
Street Meet is located on Hilton Head Island, SC in the Port Royal Plaza by Sam’s Club. You can reach us at 843-842-2570.
